Bodies of Memory

Bodies of Memory is a series of large-scale textile-based paintings that explore investigates the relationship between transformation, identity, and time by combining denim and repurposed textiles.

It's body of work explores how memory is transformed through textile materiality. Using discarded garments as both medium and subject, the project investigates how materials retain traces of previous lives while generating new meanings through painting and reconstruction.

The project is structured around three interconnected series:

Territories of Memory, which reconstructs remembered landscapes.

Short Series, a group of smaller experimental works.

And a selection of autobiographical pieces, including Carmen, Held, and 1988 Personal.

Drawing on ideas of memory and materiality explored by Henri Bergson, El Anatsui, Song Dong, and Agnès Varda, the work understands recovered textiles not as passive supports but as active carriers of memory, where painting becomes a process of transformation rather than representation.
